Ever wonder what it’s like to work with us? We are thrilled to present this series in December all about who we are and what we do! Today, we break down what it’s like to work with us. Next, get to know our team better!

So you’ve read in previous posts what kinds of packages we have, but what is really like to work with an editor?

Let me start at the beginning. Once upon a time, I started a podcast with my friend Kelly called Creative Biz Rebellion. Like many of our clients, when I started, I decided to DIY and do as much as I could by myself. It was so overwhelming! Editing took me forever and I quickly could see how this could cause burnout.

When most people come to us who have already started a podcast, they’ve reached a breaking point. They simply do not have the time to sit down and edit an hour long podcast each week. When we step in, we give our clients their time back, which is super precious.

Ok, but how does it work? Well, basically, you record the podcast and we take care of the rest. Once you’ve recorded your files, you share them with us in a shared google drive or dropbox folder. If you are a monthly client, I’m already on the lookout for those files and if I don’t see them, I will bug you!

First, I take the audio and using an advanced software, I clean the audio as much as I can. This includes taking out background noise and any incidental mouth noises. I also level out the audio and get it ready for editing. My preference is to work with audio that is as clean as possible, which is why I start this way.

Once the audio is processed, I then pull it into my editing software and begin listening and editing. What I’m listening for are those words we all say, um, ya know, so, etc. I also listen for mouth clicks, loud breathing and extra long pauses. I will even try to clean up areas where the interviewer and the guest are talking over each other.

Did you know I used to be a ballet dancer? In fact I was a ballet pedagogy major and loved choreography. One of the things we really focused on was breathing and making sure what the dancers were doing made sense. I see editing the same way. Making sure things make sense and the breathing and sentences flow just like a dance.

Hopefully this shines a light on what to expect when you work with WHP to edit your podcast! We believe in the gift of time. If you’re ready to outsource your editing and more, please complete the form here
